The Purchasing Manager functions under little or no supervision. They will complete job duties in a timely manner and with acceptable quality.  The purchasing manager will buy products for the organization to use or resell.  They will evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts and review product quality.   They will also be responsible as the Safety Manager to keep safety records up to date per OSHA requirements.  Manage the safety committee and complete safety training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures including dropship processes eg. 3 way match.
  • Complete knowledge of warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures
  • Must have a basic accounting knowledge including debits/credits, and understanding of account types (asset, liability, revenue, and expense) and how they affect the financial statements.
  • Must understand month-end close procedure and complete in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of material work planning and methods engineering processes and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to negotiate best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements
  • Complete knowledge of all related skill area machines and equipment.
  • Complete purchases, including equipment, machines, goods and services for the company
  • Study current inventory levels, plan and stock as needed
  • Identify alternative sources for inventory
  • Have a working technical knowledge of the goods to be purchased
  • Negotiate and supervise supply contracts.
  • Purchase goods directly from manufacturers or from other wholesale firms
  • Knowledge of RMA processes
  • Enforce safety regulations and codes.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety programs, using established goals.
  • Conducts building and grounds survey on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures.
  • Develops and reviews safety training for staff.
  • Maintains administrative control of records related to safety and health programs.

Sitting at a desk for long periods is typically part of a Purchasing/Safety Managers daily job. They typically use a computer and calculator to aid in their mathematical tasks. The atmosphere in which they work is a fast-paced, casual office environment. Dress is business casual.  Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
